RITTENHOUSE BROWNSTONE
A classic Philadelphia home, modernized with a touch of whimsy. Returning clients came to us with this exciting project, a three-story brownstone that they intended to restore over the better part of a decade. The goal of the project was to preserve any historic details worth saving and in some cases, replace the ones that were not with those of a contemporary style. An example of this is seen in many of the marble fireplace surrounds throughout the home. One of the things that unites this juxtaposition of styles is the overall color palette of the space. The second is the careful selection of materials, often rendering it difficult to tell old from new.
First came the entry floor, including the powder room, living room, dining room and the kitchen, which was opened to the dining room and completely overhauled to successfully function. Many of the existing, non-original windows and doors were replaced with custom ones of iron fabrication. Next was the second floor, including a guest bath and den, wrapped in a moody glasscloth and complete with custom millwork and furnishings. Lastly, the third floor was addressed, including a primary suite, and the piece de resistance – the stunning primary bathroom.
